In the midst of a critical supply shortage for medical-grade personal protective equipment, a little help can go a long way for some local health-care providers hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Cobh Lions Club has joined the fight against the virus supporting healthcare workers facing an acute shortage of Personal Protection Equipment, by producing face shields.
Twenty companies across the country are giving their time, talents and tools free of charge to manufacture 200,000 “Lions Hero Shields” face visors.
Each protective shield is produced to HSE/NHS Covid 19 Team approved EU Standard PPE.
Speaking to the Frontpagenews.ie Orla Flavin from Cobh Lions Club said the club “are proudly following the lead of the of Macroom Lions with the Lions Hero Shields project.”
“we are asking Lions Clubs all over Ireland and the public to ‘come together’ to fund the manufacturing of the PPE”
“The zone led production is well under way, we now need funds to keep production going.”
“It is in all of our hands to help save lives, individually we need to play our part by adhering to Government guidelines and staying at home. “
A dedicated bank account established in the past few days by the charity has raised €10,000, with a goal of raising €100,000.
“Not all heroes wear capes but Cobh Lions Club are helping to make sure our heroes wear shields” said Ms Flavin.
