An east Cork hospital is asking children to send mail to its elderly residents to brighten their day amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Cobh Community Hospital are asking for pictures, letters or drawings to be sent by post, as visits to the infirmary are limited to help stop the spread of Covid 19, leaving residents isolated.
The move comes as health experts warn that older people are more likely to have critical symptoms or die from the virus.
Nurse manager Erica Mullvihill has taken to social media asking kids to get “writing and colouring” to give the residents a thoughtful note that can bring some joy, even if they don’t know who the mail is from.
The children can send a personal message or write about what they’re watching, reading or baking during this time of quarantine.
All the mail recieved will be posted to the friends of Cobh Hospital face book account.
Letters pictures and drawings can be posted to Cobh Hospital, Aileen Terrace, Ballyvoloon, Cobh, Co. Cork
