Midleton psychologist Jennifer Hayes is gearing up to run the Brandon Marathon next month to raise funds for Gaza.
The enclave is trying to rebuild after 6 weeks of intensive conflict which destroyed the area and killed thousands.
The East Cork woman says she has a mountain of training to get through before the 11 October.
“I am up to 20 miles which is taking me 4 hrs 10 minutes to complete. I do my long runs which takes in mostly hills at the weekend. I do my interval training during the week with the Midleton Athletics Club after I put the kids to bed. I need to push it out but I will get there” she said.
Jennifers run will consist of 26 gruelling miles of mountain and mountain roads and takes a total climb of 4,262 feet. 11 times the climb involved in the Dublin city Marathon.
Jennifer aims to raise €1,000 in sponsorship for Trocaire which will be ring fenced to help the people of Gaza.
