Homecoming at Whitegate Rowing Club

Recently Whitegate Rowing club were welcomed home after a record 40 medal win at the All Ireland Rowing Championships in Waterville in Kerry.
The club were ushered home by a Garda Escort as they whizzed through the villages of East Cork where streets were lined with people cheering them on.
500 rowers from 50 clubs throughout Ireland took part in the weeklong event which saw Whitegate claim medals.
Under 14 Girls, Under 21 Men, Cork Yawl women and Cork Yawl Men all received gold medals.
Silver went to the Intermediate Men and Intermediate Women, with bronze going to Veteran Ladies and Pre-veteran Men.
Special mention was given on the night to Beverly Mitchell who won 7 medals between both coxing and rowing.
Jude Castles who retired from The Whitegate rowing committee on Wednesday received a presentation of flowers. Jude told the crowd that she was not hanging up her oars just yet and will continue with leisure rowing.
