Cobh Community Hospital has received a much needed boost following the presentation of a €10,000 cheque from Cobh Credit Union.
Friends and supporters including staff gathered at the facility where the sizeable cheque was handed over to Nurse Manager Julie Dwyer.
The Nurse manager told the East Cork Journal “We have a massive support from the community. This money is going to be a major boost for the care of the residents in the hospital. It’s a real example of the type of support we get here.”
Currently there are 38 residents in the hospital, 35 of those are long-term stays and 3 respite beds.
There is at present a lengthy waiting list for long-term care at the service, with up to 25 people awaiting a bed.
Right now a new day room and dining room are being constructed at a cost of €350,000.
Mrs Doyle added the building work is “essential to meet HIQUA’s requirements for a recreation and dining area. We plan to open another 5 beds on application to HIQUA, that is why this space is desperately needed.”
